A significant report exploring the evolving landscape of journalism funding and innovation written by scholars and journalists is now available in French, making it accessible to a broader audience.
The Global Journalism Innovation Lab has published the French translation of its 2024 report Novel Directions in Media Innovation and Funding, called Nouvelles Orientations en Innovation et Financement Des Médias.
It features insights from scholars and journalists who participated in an ICA post-conference, Novel Directions in Media Innovation and Funding, held in Toronto May 29-30 2023.
The report comes at a crucial time when media organizations worldwide are grappling with unprecedented challenges, with concerns about declining revenues, fragmentation of audiences and the power of platforms.
The report contributes to the growing field of journalism innovation studies, which has seen substantial growth in recent years. The report’s findings are particularly relevant as the media industry continues to explore novel funding mechanisms and innovative practices to ensure sustainability.
The report explores the need for new, human-centred approaches to journalism. Whether it’s in practices, government policies or media funding, the contributors explore a wide range of pertinent issues in journalism around the world. From the Swiss media adapting to the digital transformation to the paradoxes and political undermining of Egyptian journalism to the challenges of launching an Indigenous digital news start-up on a sustainable funding model, contributors stress the need for systemic industry change.
